Throughout my fifteen years’ experience as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I have strived to introduce a range of different therapies for different disorders, all with the aim of enabling the sufferer to establish the reason or root cause of their symptoms and to give them the tools they need to manage and live with their various issues.
Depression is one such disorder and it is one I am able to treat as part of psychotherapy West Wickham.
Psychotherapy, although an effective treatment for clinical depression, is often used alongside medication and other treatments for a more effective all round remedy.
We used psychotherapy because, by uncovering the reason for the depression, we can develop good coping tools to combat the symptoms and to deal effectively with the various triggers which can either bring symptoms on or worsen them.
There have been various studies which support the use of psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioural therapy for the treatment of depression and my own experience also supports this.
When embarking on a course of treatment with a new patient, I am always guided by my belief that every patient and every set of symptoms is different. Therefore, our first meeting always involves a deep and detailed discussion of the various symptoms and the patients’ history. From there, we can establish a treatment plan and put into place the right course of treatment with the ultimate aim of helping each patient to manage their symptoms and move on with their life in control of their depression.
As part of this, we will discuss the ways in which you can reduce stresses, the way that you can manage your relationships with friends, family and co-workers, the importance of managing your medication if this applies, and how to deal with the various symptoms which your condition may create.
